Indigenous and traditional sciences share an intimate relationship with herbal medicine — one that extends far beyond chemistry.
Taxonomists, herbalists, healers, and medicine women and men understand medicinal plants not only through their measurable compounds, but also through the subtle energetics they carry. These plants support our wellbeing in ways often overlooked by the modern industrialized medical industry.
Each herbal ingredient holds its own medicinal properties, actions, temperature, and energetic patterns. For example, in general herbalism and naturopathic medicine, St. John’s Wort is widely recognized as an antidepressant for its ability to raise serotonin levels. However, in pharmacognosy — the pharmacological study of natural substances and their interactions — St. John’s Wort may also decrease serum drug levels by inducing P-glycoprotein in the small intestine and can deplete vitamin D in the body.¹
Indigenous and traditional herbal principles, however, see no concept of “anti-.” There is no good or evil in medicine. Healing is not about suppression, but about restoring harmony between mind, body, and spirit. St. John’s Wort is understood as a warming nervine with carminative, diaphoretic, and circulating actions. These qualities help reduce coldness and stagnation, bringing warmth and brightness to those whose moods have become heavy or still.
No single herbal medicine carries just one active compound — each plant works as a symphony of constituents, harmonizing to bring balance. Nature, too, never provides only one answer: many herbs share overlapping phytochemical components, reflecting availability, geography, and cultural adaptation.
Our Emotion Rebalancing Herbal Tonics are designed with this same philosophy — simple, accessible, and attuned to what our bodies and spirits need most.

Chronic sadness and constant “go-go-go” living deplete our vital essence (Jing, 精). Recovery requires more than rest — it calls for gentler rhythms, nourishment, and connection. To restore essence means tending to lifestyle, mindset, and nutrition, as well as accepting help from community and nature’s quiet medicines.
In traditional and Indigenous systems, emotion and vitality move as one — neither separate nor opposed. When we sip these tonics, we’re not fighting illness; we’re listening.
Each infusion becomes a dialogue between the body’s chemistry and the earth’s consciousness — a reminder that balance, not resistance, is the true medicine.
